The Reebok Proving Ground Regional Combine held at A.T.T.A.C.K. Athletics in Chicago featured 90 players with Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Colorado, Texas and North Carolina all being among the states represented. We attended the second day of action and at the end of the day the top three performers from Illinois were clearly 6'5 Alex Dragicevich from Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, IL; 6'0 Tremell Owens from Proviso West High School in Hillside, IL and 6'3 Brian Conway from Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights, IL.
We have already written plenty on Owens (see www.ilprepbullseye.com/page39.html), so we begin with Dragicevich, who continues to grow as well as diversify his game. Dragicevich has really worked on his ball handling and we now believe that he can play as many as three positions effectively. He has above-average athleticism, shoots it well from beyond the arc, and has now added an extra offensive weapon--the ability to bring the ball up court in transition and break down defenders off the dribble. We think that he is rapidly emerging as the top combo guard in Illinois from the class of 2010 and deserves to be mentioned in the same breath with most all of the top guards in the state from this class. With that being said, we look for his recruiting to pick up considerably.
Conway once again showed that he is most adept at slashing and attacking the basket. He has also worked extremely hard at improving his ball handling, as he knows that he will need to show point guard skills at the next level. In addition, Conway has also shown that he can shoot it from beyond the 3-point arc, although he remains streaky in that area. Nevertheless, he is a super young man with a great work ethic, which largely explains why he is receiving considerable recruiting attention from several schools in the Missouri Valley, Horizon League and Atlantic Ten conferences.
Additional Note
Once again there is a certain internet site, the administrator of whom we refer to as "the joker" who is trying to fool people into thinking that his information from certain events is first hand when it isn't. This holds true with respect to this event, as well as the Next Level Invitational in Mequon, WI. Those of you who don't care about this ought to, as we would think that you would want the most detailed analysis possible, which you will get from any event that we attend, as opposed to the second-hand information that comes from this person. At least when we report on events that we don't attend, we are honest enough to say so. With that being said, all of our info from both of these events is first-hand.
